Diarrhea Types and Treatment
Diarrhea is a frequent emptying of the intestines at which intestinal waste has a soft or liquid consistence.Acute diarrhea is comprehended as a change in the consistence of intestinal waste, increase in the frequency of bowel movement (more than 3 times day) with the duration less than 4 weeks. Though, in most cases diarrhea stops independently, acute diarrhea still plays an important role in morbidity and death rate, in particular in children and elderly persons. Acute diarrhea is related to pluricausal diseases. Taking healthcare products or their toxins, inflammatory or ischemic diseases of the intestines, unabsorbed carbohydrates, inflammation in the small pelvis can act as infectious activators. In the developed countries, the most frequent reason for diarrhea is viruses (adenovirus, rotavirus, Norwalk viruses).
Virus diarrhea as diarrhea of rotavirus etiology (the most frequent form of infectious diarrhea in children), caused by Norwalk virus, and also adeno- and astroviruses have the greatest clinical value. Observing the clinical picture of virus diarrhea, it can be characterized by a frequent combination of diarrheas and fevers with indigestion disorders, and affection of the top respiratory ways. The diagnosis proves to be true when detecting the virus in feces by means of electronic microscopy or carrying out special immunologic researches. The disease duration does not exceed, as a rule, 35 days. The treatment is symptomatic and is narrowed to elimination of watery-electrolytic disorders.
The treatment is directed on elimination of the reasons which have caused diarrhea. For example, corresponding vitamins are injected under hypovitaminosis, stomach gastric juice or its substitutes are prescribed under achylia. Diarrheas which are not related to infection, a sparing diet (restriction of carbohydrates, refractory fats of the animal origin), and careful food chewing food are advised.
Imodium (Loperamid) can assist in restoring balance to your gastrointestinal system and it acts even quicker than the leading prescription antidiarrheal drugs.Labels: Diarrhea
