Prevention of Vomiting at Chemotherapy

Irrespective of the fact that the scientific progress stepped forward greatly, patients who are exposed to the course of chemotherapy, still often feel nausea and vomiting during such a therapy. At the end of the 19th century the issue on the anti-vomiting therapy was discussed at international conferences. At the beginning of the 20th century this question returned back again. The matter is that in the modern pharmacology there constantly appear new antiemetic medications which demand discussion in the sphere of gurus.

The modern oncology includes such a term as emetogenity. This term means the risk of occurrence of vomiting in patients who take any cytostatic agent without antiemetic treatment. A high degree of emetogenity is existing nausea in more than ninety percent of cases in patients who take the course of cytostatic treatment.

The term "emetogenity" of medications used in chemotherapy has not less than two purposes. The first one is the development of rules in order to prevent emetic reflexes in patients who are under the course of treatment with a various sort of cytostatics. The second purpose is conduction of as many various researches concerning the antiemetic therapy as possible. At present there is not such a great number of medications and they do not help everyone. It is a pity but many of these medicines should be subjected to more careful studying to exclude side effects that they got. Each patient has a different type of vomiting; therefore medications for treating the symptom should be different.
Kytril (Granisetron) is a powerful and advanced formulation of antiemetic agent used in the prevention practice of chemotherapy consequences that are usually characterized by side effects similar to nausea and vomiting.
