Sore Throat Antibiotics Sore throat (tonsillitis) represents inflammation of palatine tonsils. More often sore throat has a bacterial character. An attribute of sore throat bacterial nature is occurrence of purulent accretion or purulent jams on the tonsils. In some cases purulent accretion or jams appear only some days later after the beginning of the disease. That means that the primary virus infection has joined bacterial one.The use of antibiotics during sore throat is expedient only in the case of heavy and often repeated sore throat. In such situations to use antibiotics is necessary for the prevention of complications. Attributes of acute sore throat are a substantial growth of tonsils, pains while swallowing, swelling of the throat, high temperature, deterioration of the general condition of a patient. Children frequently have streptococcal sore throat which can proceed as scarlet fever.
Scarlet fever or acute sore throat is an indication for using antibiotics. In most cases, both usual sore throat and scarlet fever are treated with antibiotics referred to penicillins.
