Is Toxicosis Norm or Lapse?

Early pregnancy toxicosis is an extremely unpleasant phenomenon complicating the initial stage of pregnancy. Prevalence of early toxicosis is so great that frequently its symptoms are considered to be classical pregnancy symptoms while the development of toxicosis testifies lapses of metabolism regulation and behavioral reactions in the body of a pregnant woman. And it means that the bases of early toxicosis are pathological. Normally proceeding pregnancy, unlike toxicosis, is considered to be a special physiological (normal) condition of the women's body but not a pathology (that is illness).

The exact reason and mechanisms of the early toxicosis development in pregnant women are not finally known. The doubtless fact is that toxicosis is a display of the body pathological reaction in a woman to pregnancy development. In the opinion of researchers, some mechanisms participate in early toxicosis development: neurogenic, reflex, toxic, allergic, immune. It is the most probable that toxicosis development occurs in return to the reactance change of special centers in the brain which are responsible for behavioral reactions connected with feed, occurrence of nausea, a reflex of vomiting ( centers of the intermediate brain).

Most likely, in the basis of the term "toxicosis" lies its basic attributes reminding toxication symptoms. The most common symptoms of early toxicosis are nausea, vomiting, salivation. The development of these symptoms explains completely the theory about irritation centers of the nervous system responsible for food reflexes.
